USDA proposes rule so retailers can track source of raw ground beef

The U.S. Dept. of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced a proposed rule that would require makers of raw ground beef to keep records identifying the source, supplier, and names of each material that goes into these products. Retailers often grind several cuts of beef together, and during recalls, it can be difficult to trace the individual sources in the affected ground beef.
